The Foundation of Corporate Responsibility at HNI
HNI defines our Corporate Responsibility (CR) efforts into three categories: Respecting People, Reducing Impact, and Redefining Tomorrow.

Respecting People
HNI members make our company a success. We strive to be a great employer and are committed to HNI being a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. We extend this commitment to partners in our supply chain and the communities where we live and work.

Reducing Impacts
We work every day to consume less energy, create less waste, and reduce emissions. We are committed to mitigating climate change through sourcing renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions. We have aligned our emissions targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and believe in creating a better, more sustainable, tomorrow.

Redefining Tomorrow
We are focusing on eliminating chemicals of concern and understanding life cycle impacts of our products. We prioritize the use of recycled, renewable, and low-emitting materials that are sourced responsibly and sustainably, and we work to minimize the environmental impacts of our products and packaging.

Supporting Members & Our Communities

A Legacy of Giving
The HNI Charitable Foundation began in 1985 with the mission to support the communities where members live and work and to address issues that are important to our members, their families, and the future of our company. Over the last two decades, the foundation has given over $7.2 million in scholarships to HNI members and their families. Since 2019, the HNI Charitable Foundation has donated over $3.6 million to nearly 150 community organizations.

Lending Time and Expertise
HNI collaborates with local communities to offer educational opportunities for students and professionals alike. In 2021, HNI was awarded the Van Meter Education Excellence Award for Automation Training in recognition of our Maintenance Apprenticeship Program registered with the U.S. Department of Labor and the State of Iowa.

Volunteerism at HNI
Individual HNI members give their time and energy to serve local community needs, too. Most recently, members have planted trees in Muscatine, Iowa, distributed food to families in need, raised money for breast cancer awareness, and helped build a home for Habitat for Humanity.

Inclusive Workplace
At HNI, we know that leveraging differences in backgrounds and experiences leads to better outcomes in our work. We continually strengthen our workplace through our core belief of a community of everyone based on fairness, respect, integrity, trust, transparency and collaboration.
